Wegovy
Wegovy Side Effects
Wegovy shares semaglutide's side-effect profile. Most are gastrointestinal and tend to ease as your dose is gradually increased.
Common side effects
Wegovy's active ingredient is semaglutide, so its side-effect profile is similar to Ozempic. The most frequently reported effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation. These are typically mild to moderate and tend to decrease over the first 8–12 weeks as the dose is titrated toward the 2.4 mg maintenance level.
Less common side effects
- Headache or fatigue, especially early in treatment
- Injection-site reactions
- Changes in appetite beyond the intended effect
Serious but rare risks
Serious but rare side effects include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Your prescribing clinician will review your full medical history and risk profile before starting treatment, and should be your first call if you notice severe or persistent symptoms.
Managing side effects
Eating smaller meals, avoiding high-fat foods, and staying hydrated can help during titration. Don't adjust your dose on your own — any changes should go through your prescribing clinician.
