Common side effects

As a dual GIP/GLP-1 agonist, tirzepatide has a side-effect profile broadly similar to semaglutide. The most frequently reported effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation. These are typically mild to moderate and tend to decrease over the first 8–12 weeks as the dose is gradually titrated upward.

Less common side effects

• Decreased appetite and fatigue, especially early in treatment
• Injection-site reactions
• Indigestion or abdominal discomfort

Serious but rare risks

Serious but rare side effects include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Your prescribing clinician will review your full medical history and risk profile before starting treatment, and should be your first call if you notice severe or persistent symptoms.

Managing side effects

Eating smaller meals, avoiding high-fat foods, and staying hydrated can help during titration. Don't adjust your dose on your own — any changes should go through your prescribing clinician.
